BERNESE MOUNTAIN DOG CLUB

OF THE

GREATER TWIN CITIES

We are here to serve the needs of both our club members, future Bernese Mountain Dog owners and Bernese Mountain Dogs.

About the Club

The Bernese Mountain Dog Club of the Greater Twin Cities (BMDCGTC) welcomes individuals who are passionate about the breed! Whether you are a past, present, or future Berner owner, we hope that you'll join us in our mission to support responsible care and breeding of Berners, as well as educating both members and non-members about the unique qualities of our favorite breed.

Founded in 1988, our organization has helped educate people about the breed, sponsor educational events, and promote participation in AKC events. Working closely with the AKC, the BMDCA and other clubs throughout the country, the BMDCGTC strives to provide meaningful engagement to club members and the community. Holding events and club meetings several times a year, we aim to engage owners in new ways. To find out more, click the link below!

About the Breed

Bernese Mountain Dogs, or "Berners", are an American Kennel Club (AKC) recognized breed with a rich history. From their origins in Switzerland pulling carts, driving cattle, and watching the farm, Berners have quickly become a favorite around the world for their affectionate, easygoing personalities.

Still, careful research and consideration should be made before selecting any breed or individual dog. This is a breed that is not without health issues. If you are looking for a puppy, it’s important that you find a breeder that has this in mind, and has done their homework before selecting dogs for breeding. Before you and your family decide to make a Berner part of your family, please take a moment to consider the strengths, weaknesses, and recommendations that will help you make an informed decision!
